Hi Gus King George VII passed away on February 6th 1952 my typo error ( For June 1952 it should have been February 1952 ) as Elisabeth came Queen on February 6th 1952 but was not crowned til 2nd of June 1953 that is why the calibrations are been carried out this year as it is 70 Years on February but it has been decided for June instead as the weather will be better hope that clarify things kind regards Bob

How to watch the Queen? It's time to crank out again the picture of my 'Bude' (Baird outside - Bush inside) showing HRH in rather squashed form.

I sometimes wonder why I ever made the Bude. It is truly awful to work on access-wise. However, it does have a separate valve amplifier built in for the sound, an earthed chassis, and gives better results on both sound and vision than an untouched Baird Townsman.

The nation's memory of the actual Coronation, whose anniversary is next year, is strongly bound up with how it was watched on television and how families often got together to crowd round a (black-and-white, 405-line) television set. Owners of original working sets on this forum who can demonstrate them on the 2023 anniversary should expect a lot of local interest, once the word gets out.  Of course, if we can demonstrate an actual vintage television broadcast on that date showing the original programme, to be picked up by original sets - even better. Needless to say, this is presently just a pipedream and various things would have to fall into place to make it happen.

Hi.
Well of course a TV pantry transmitter would add some reality to the day. The Hedghog and Aurora go a few feet with a simple dipole, you get a bit more range on band 3 as you can cut the dipole more accurately.
I've got an old distribution amplifier that feeds into a passive splitter for 16 outlets and it gives out a fair old signal, have no idea of the level but with a few feet of wire from the output it goes a few tens of yards.

A number of years ago it was fed to a band 3 yagi and on CH9 it went a couple of miles, that experiment was short lived and now as a licensed Amateur I don't even consider doing such a thing..... It was rather fun though.

Your Bude is not the only set of this age that is a pig to work on. You may have noticed the dreadful photo I posted earlier of my TV22 showing a decided lack of interlacing. It turns out I had missed a waxy but that was an easy fix so I then decided, since the iron was hot, to see if I could fix the frame linearity of my TV32. Unlike its older sibling the '32 is not easy to remove from its cabinet so I need to operate it on its side with the RF deck hanging out the back and anything on the chassis top side is only visible with a small mirror. I think I had previously replaced every timebase capacitor in the thing and in desperation actually replaced the two 200pF micas this time. Needless to say that changed nothing. The poor little ECL80 frame oscillator and output is supposed to run enough current to show 10 volts on the cathode but mine was showing 4 volts despite having a very healthy boost voltage.

After trying out about 20 ECL80 pulls I finally got one or two that gave me 6 or 7 volts but still showing fold over at the bottom of the picture. I then threw away a handful still believing that the others might have some use in a less stressful circuit. Am now awaiting a supposedly NOS part.
