I'm always suspicious pf anything free   

Nice idea, some will respond but not me.  This the second I have had.

Any email with a suspicious attachment from a questionable URL gets sent to report@phishing.gov.uk . This is actually part of GCHQ, and an automated service. They take down tens of thousands of the sort of thing above a year.

Any email, phone calls offering any sort of prize is junked immediately.
Maybe I have lost millions in prize money ! ( :-) ) but my PC is safe.

Once upon a time I was offered cars as prize money.
I told the callers that I was sorry, but couldn't take any more cars
as my garage was already full of car prizes.

If an email like this doesn't have your Christian and Surname separate rouses suspicion for a start.
Any thing to do with prizes etc is automatically put in spam.
I'm extremely diligent with email and anything suspicious is never opened.

The silly thing about anything like this is that in impersonating a police officer or law official you are commiting an offence that maybe the genuine police would regard as far more serious than that of the scammer in the first place. In my view we are in a no win situation until the telecom companies are held to account for the criminal behaviour they allow on their systems.
International companies need no refuge either.
