Internet Radio. Make and Service Suppliers

Another neat idea with the Raspberrry Pi is the hifiberry OS.
It has different platforms, Internet radio, your own playlists and many good features including network streaming, smartphone control and even a wireless remote control.
I gave it a try today and I was seriously impressed by the audio quality, it automatically adjusts the hifiberry DAC. DAC + or DAC+ADC for optimum.
Smartphones audio outputs are never a match for a good audio card. The hifiberry cards bandwidth extends to 192khz, I use them to generate RDS for my pantry transmitter.

I have three Internet Radios, bought over something like the last 12 years. In order, a Freecom MusicPal, a Roberts 83i and an Ocean Digital WR 210. These are all very different animals, each having it's own merits and de-merits.

The Musical Pal has been doing great service for a long time as the source for my Pantry Tx.
The Roberts is not in current use.
The Ocean Digital was acquired about a year ago and is the bedside radio, and I can hide under the bedclothes on cold nights changing channels using the remote control. This was a budget price (~£50) product, and the software is a bit "notchy" and the sound quality is 'adequate' rather than great, but it covers internet and DAB and can in theory store up to 200 stations on the remote. If it failed, I would want to replace it quickly.

However, the particular model I have is no longer on sale, but its replacement looks similar I think and is £56, and can be found here https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ocean-Digital-I...08D6LR55N/.

Low cost and I didnt need DAB or FM. Works well and pretty easy to set up. Sound not bad from the small speaker but it is intended to feed my Pantry Xmitter.

So far recommended.

Thanks for the tip Gary. Though not exactly a 'looker' is it... in comparison with the sort of radios we work on and love. In fact it's really ugly (in my eyes only of course).

Why can't modern radios be designed to look beautiful? Is this a form of masochism? Sorry.. rant over.

We like it as it just fades away at the back of the sideboard.  Really didnt want anything ostentatious.

Display is good and and the menus are easy to get around.  Also, its very light, so easy to sit in the armchair and hold as you set up stations.

Maybe unbeatable at the price?  And I didnt have to use that jungle place to get it  .

Interesting!  That Bush model has design undertones which make me wonder if if comes from the same people who make the Ocean Digital radio I mentioned in post  #23 - the price point is curiously similar too! Argos customers seem to like it. However, it does lack a remote control, which I greatly value for my "under the bed clothes" listening   .
