Pretty much the same here. Simulations are something I don't use much so the learning curve for a new system would take up precious time. Thank you for posting though as it is useful to know.
Tracy Ps: After taking a look I see the company is now closed so this is probably soon to be obsolete anyway?

After a few silly mistakes I did get it to work on this very complex circuit..
It is because the company has closed that it has now been offered free. So no updates or support. Peter

LTspice is good and there are valve libraries too. Though it's ADI now.
The last LTspice I downloaded didn't work on XP, needed Win7 or higher, though amazingly it's fine on WINE (no VM needed) on Linux. My old XP models worked. I've downloaded it anyway, though I've pretty much given up Electronics in favour of writing. Maybe I'll change my mind in the summer.

I thought I'd try it on a little frequency changer that I designed 40 years ago to convert the 405 line transmissions from Kirk o' Shotts (Channel 3 v. 56.75HMz) down to 45MHz for input to my HMV901.
The transfer function shows something but I'm not convinced that it recognises that the oscillator is oscillating and the mixer mixing! Peter

LTspiceXVII is for Windows 7,8 & 10 - you need the previous version, LTspiceIV for XP (and it's now marked End-of-Life) - see https://www.analog.com/en/design-center/...ator.html# Why should being part of ADI be an issue? - they have stated full support for it and indeed have added a huge number of ADI models - it seems to be going from strength to strength. It's fully 64-bit, multi-threaded, fast and stable with a huge number of models by default plus the ability to use pretty much any PSPICE model from other sources too.

Hi Peter,
I've never had much success trying to use modern simulation software... which is why I've stuck with a twenty(!) year old copy of Electronics Workbench - however, I might give Micro-cap a go. Does it have a virtual 'scope to check waveforms in different parts of the circuit ? (like my old EWB does). I was also wondering if it's possible to change the units displayed from e.g. 'e-6' to 'μ' ? Andy

Hi Andy,
https://www.spectrum-soft.com/download/rm12.pdf I think you can view waveforms but I haven't got there yet. See: https://www.spectrum-soft.com/download/r...#page=1055 I suspect you can input symbols too but once again I haven't been there. I thought I'd try spice just to compare and have been struggling with it most of today. Peter
