Spindle Motor substitution in SONY CD Players

Scope the "S" curve, no result try a new optical block.

I'm hapered by two things currently, one is, without a longer 19-way ribbon cable to link the BD Board (on the underside of the mechanism) to the main PCB, I can't get at the BD Board to measure anything on it, so checking around the BA6397F Driver IC whilst the unit is powered is difficult. I could easily rig up a temporary lead to connect the loading motor & switch to the main board, but need a longer FPC ribbon for the Main to BD board connections. Currently I don't have a working 'scope, though this is being recified in th near future.

I'd just fire in another optical block to eliminate it. One other thing, are you 100% sure the table height is correct?

I did make a careful note of the T/T height before removing it from the original motor, and set it the same height (18mm above the deck plate) when fitting the new motor. Admittedly the measurement was only made with a metal ruler, but AFAIK it's correct and not fouling anything. I don't have a new optical block of the correct type, so would have to obtain one. Perhaps I should check that the existing one is actually working first. To think that all this came about because I balked at paying CHS £111 for a new assembly, c/w both motors and the optical block. I did say back at post #1 that 'I should know better!'

Snag is the BD boards did give trouble, you could just about gut the whole bloomin board out and it still didn't play the game. Bung in a new board and off she went and this was at the time I worked for Sony!
Eventually Thatcham recommended you replace the whole lot!
In all honesty CD repairs are a waste of time and financially.

Good advice from one who knows about Sony products from the manufacturer/importer's side, Trevor. I haven't checked, but, given the age of the CD-EX100, a replacement BD Board isn't likely to be available, nor, I suspect, are any of the 3 (LSI)SMD I.C.s on this one!
