With reference to the Pye 65A service sheet what does "Aperiodically tuned aerial coupling coils" mean? I've seen the term aperiodic used many times in reference to radios etc but never really looked into what it means, anyone know?

Aperiodic means 'untuned', Lawrence, in this case only referring to the aerial coupling coils - the main windings are tuned.

However, a better insight might be provided by an extract from the Trader sheet for the Mullard MAS221:

"For SW operation ... the tuning capacitor C34 is disconnected due the opening of S5, so that the input circuit is aperiodic."

Ed Dinning has rewound the driver transformer so now's the time to fit it back into the chassis.

The dial cord needs replacing.

It works!   Ed's transformer works perfectly.   Two TCC waxies needed replacing, the coupling capacitor from the anode of the HL23DD triode to the primary of the push-pull driver transformer and the screen grid decoupler of the TP25 frequency changer and the VP23 IF amplifier.
These radios with the 2 volt Mazda Octal valves can perform almost as good as a mains radio.
Still a few more jobs to do, the short waveband is dead and of course that rusty chassis needed repainting.

I have a Pye 67A, the driver (phase splitter) transformer in this was also open-circuit, as was the output transformer!

Replacing these (and doing quite a few mods in the process), it works rather well.

One point - is the tuning capacitor secured with one fixing bracket floating in mid-air, no hole in the chassis evebn for a screw? It was on mine - this is one of the mods I did.

Set about dismantling the chassis prior to repainting it.   As can be seen in the attached pictures it's in a pretty rough state.   As many as it is possible above chassis components have been removed, just have to decide what to do about the valve holders.
