Boater Sam onboard

Hello, I've been accepted!
Some will know that I also frequent other forums.
Very pleasing to be elevated to the ranks as Technical Assistant so soon, hope that I can live up to the title. Formal training as electronic tech, 49 years ago!
My lifestyle is a little unusual, missing from the UK for 4 months a year and living on a boat on the UK canals for the rest.
I do have a workshop on the farm in Middlewich where we moor, restoring mainly valve radios , no room for TVs.
Looking forward to some lively debate on the forum.

Welcome to this forum from me. I'm also a member of UKVRRR, under a different user name. Less 'rules & regulations' on here!!

I live on a boat too. It's not in the canal but on hard-standing so I can do more work on it. I have another GRP boat also on hard standing and this has a big HMV fifties radio stored in it.

I started out with an interest in boat wiring and electrics and then gradually developed the interest in vintage radio as well.

By the way, my boat has one of those noisy and smoky Lister SR's which I like a lot as it's also vintage early seventies.

Wonderful !
Another one !
Enjoy your cruising when you get it back in the water.
I went the other way, radios 1st, the boat came later.
Nothing wrong with an SR2/3/4 Lister, a bit of smoke is grand.

My boat is 1975 and the Lister maybe the same. One of these days I'll have to have a bash at decarbonising the valves and so on. Likewise the hull has been over-plated which may carry a degree of risk (I did once spring a leak around the prop box)

Late nights are spent on the boat reading radio HAM theory or often doing music. I never seem to keep it tidy as old radios and tape machines are all over the place and space is limited.

How big's your narrowboat?

[boater sam]

Morning.
Its 50ft, Gary Gorton trad 1990.

I'll be doing mine up this year. The Lister SR still runs fine.

Painted mine 2 years ago, hope this year to do very little but cruise. I'll be cheeky and show a picture, not really off thread. Damn its too big. I'll get it re-sized but I am about to get on a plane.
