Talking of the Transitron, there's the Miller Transitron, used in some 'scopes I seem to recollect, some guff here:

Some Eddystone communications receivers use the Transition osc. for the in-built crystal calibrator, the model 888A being one of them: a 100 kHz. quartz plate in an evacuated B7G valve-type envelope. Harmonics are readily detectable up to 30 MHz.
