next set to be done a stella 105u not as pretty as the philips version and missing a knob on the good side the drive cord is intact and the cabinet looks ok .
i am hopeing the aerial matching can is ok .

Excellent radio with some useful circuit refinements. Back in June 2011 I restored one and posted my experiences on the forum at the link below:

I've just reattached the pics to the original posts as, like all other posts pre Sept 2011 which had attachments, the pics were lost due to the 'ghost in the machine' which attempted to derail the forum. The ghost has long since been exorcised and the forum re-established on a very firm footing, thanks to Mark and the rest of the forum team and membership who stayed loyal.



The set works really well on the frame aerial.

Quite a nice set these. If you want the original Stella manual, just say.

The only downside is the use of a UL41. They often have a problem due to the dirt on the inside of the glass tube, so if you have volts on the valve after changing 'that' capacitor, it is most likely the bottle.

Just change the caps, one at a time, and switch on.

hi steve i am in the fortunate position of haveing 8 nos ul41's it certainly looks easyer than the philips 200u i did a few weeks ago.
david what is the best way to get the dail pointer back in position in the cabinet?

i have just re read your restoration
the only differance i can see is the mains switch on mine is the open type and will have to be removed to replace the cut off mains lead. and the dropper looks like an rs replacement.

The mains switch and pot looks a strange affair on yours, and quite large. I've never seen that arrangement before. Though you're missing the knobs, you've got the special plastic gear jobby with its notched ('castelated') arrangement that operates the wavechange switch. On the spare set that I've yet to replicate, that's missing on mine, so I'll have to consider how to make one by one means or another. It's another litte job on my 'do list'!

Best of luck with the restoration - I think you'll be pleased with the performance of the set when completed.

I'll have a look at my set and report back - I can't recall any problems in that regard Rob.

I've had a look at the radio Rob, and to get the pointer into position you have to remove the two decorative brass screws that hold the tuning dial in place, then just hook the pointer under the dial backplate and refit the dial. I've attached a few pics which show the dial removed, close-ups of the knobs, and the dial re-fitted. The tuning knob and wavechage lever are unique to this set - the castelated lever engages with the mating wavechange lever, so it's not simply a question of finding a couple of knobs that look to be a reasonable match. The knob for the on/off switch and volume control has a little plastic spacer disc to match the wavechange lever. I've shown the underside and upper side of the knobs, so I hope that clarifies the arrangement.
