If I'd got a router I'd be tempted to make a completely new on out of that MasterBoard stuff.

It's a long way short of perfect but will at least be safe. I've painted the cut edges with shellac so when that's properly hard I should be able to improve things by filing and sanding.

I've now done the dial.

I couldn't find a way of getting the rest of the background off without damaging the station marks so I scanned it:-

   

After some footling about I got it to:-

   

This looks poor on the screen but I learnt when playing about with one for a DAC90a that printers are more forgiving and it did indeed look far better on paper.

This was sandwiched between the two pieces of glass I'd prepared for the '90a and is certainly a big improvement:-

Anybody want to buy some DAC90as? I've now about finished this and it seems far better.

It was difficult enough to work on to not be boring but straight-forward enough not to be a hassle.

I changed all the caps. A few tested reasonably OK but there's no guarantee that they'll stay thus and as these had to be disturbed to get the bad ones out it seemed to make sense to do the lot. Beside, a mixture of old and new looks like a bodge. The improvement in performance seems to justify it.

   

The latest example of my loosing my marbles was when I sprayed the back this morning. I couldn't understand how my black spray paint had gone grey. I'm not very experianced with this stuff so was thinking it must have gone off.

After a couple of coats I realised that it was some primer that I'd forgotten buying.

   

The case could still do with more polishing, in fact I may even treat it to a tube of Bakobrite.

   

All told I'm very happy indeed.

Only joking, Mark. I do have an ivory one (see http://golbornevintageradio.org/forum/sh...hp?tid=862&highlight=a+developing) but it cost so much to sort out that it'd be too expensive. It's also that one which has the poor dial glass.

This DAC90 certainly out-performs all my 'as.

It should be a walk in the park, Rob.

After taking the back off to photograph it I've had my VHF90 on and can say it'll be worth the trouble you're having.
