Huh - I've lost the plot!
I've got Trader Sheet 1098 in from of me, and the underside of the chassis shows V4 as being next to the side apron, with V3 further to the centre of the chassis. The above chassis diagram shows them likewise - V4 closer to the side apron, and V3 closer to the output transformer. Ian is right about the design error with HT being switched and not the LT. If it was indeed wired like that, the heaters would be on all the time and would soon run down the LT battery. It was the norm to switch the LT - not the HT, because if the heaters aren't on, the valves will draw no HT current. It isn't that they've made a typo on marking the switch on the circuit layout - they've made an errror in the circuit diagram, which shows the switch in the HT line, but no switch in the LT line. How very dare they!
