Trader Sheet for Pye Fenman 1

Hi
I have the PYE service data for the fenman, but I would be interested to see a copy of the Trader details for the same set, does anyone have a copy they can share? Regards Andrew

Manufacturer, Trader, ERT, R&TS, each seem to include things the others don't and it varies between manufacturers and even sets as to which is the best.
ERT and manufacturers tend to put component values on the circuit diagram itself but RT&S scores in giving power ratings for resistors and voltages for capacitors. - Joe

Great to see the forum providing a useful free service to members!
I've found that generally, the Makers' sheets (where the exist) tend to be the best, as we'd expect. The Bush DAC90A is a case in point - the Trader sheet is OK, but a bit scruffy, but the Bush service instructions run to 8 pages, which are cleaner, and more comprehensive. As has been said, it's an annoyance that the Trader Sheets and ERT sheets invariably use different component numbering from the makers', which can result in confusion when someone says for example, 'make sure you replace C22' when on the maker's sheet it's referred to as 'C26', but on the trader sheet 'C26' is a different cap entirely - on the inside of an IFT can for example, and quite harmless! After the war, radio manufacturers were seeking new ways of getting people to ditch their old AM sets, and with the introduction of FM broadcasts from 1955, they were keen to jump on the bandwagon, just as happened later on with 625 line dual standard TVs, colour TVs, digital, HDTV, and now 3D. The Fenman, with it's FM waveband, capitlised on the then recently introduced FM broadcasts, and I imagine that at the time, they thought AM would fizzle out, just as they thought that DAB would sweep aside FM/AM. The trouble with gazing into crystal balls is that there's a tendancy to see more balls than crystals. Remember when Sony introduced the 'Walkman?' Other makers and sections of the media scoffed at the idea, and saw no market for a 'tape recorder' (as they saw it) that wouldn't record, so thought it would be a flop. The rest is history. Yes I would agree but the free circuit diagrams supplied with Grundig TV sets, were a bit over-comprehensive. I would much rather follow a circuit diagram on one sheet of paper. Having to refer to multiple sheets is frustrating. I found the Decca TV sheets excellent and clear. Roger. fixed broken quote. Chris
