Or simply a satellite receiver at the transmitter to save feed costs if the station is already on satellite anyway. RTE used to use Sky boxes (Needed card for TV), but now for TV they use KaSat. Presumably Virgin has to pay sky subs for TV feed backup at each site as they are too penny pinching to be on KaSat for FTA Irish Satellite viewers. Really just rent the Virgin brand, it's Dutch UPC Cable company owned by USA Liberty Media/Global. Sadly BCI hasn't made it mandatory for Irish Terrestrial TV licence holders to be on the Irish FTA Saorsat (Saor = free)

I heard a station on short wave three years ago with a long echo - you can hear it on my Youtube video here :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ex23MV_vPNQ
I can't remember what the station was but I checked it at the time and they only had one transmitter on that frequency.
There was some solar activity at the time and I just assumed it was going multiple times around the earth before I picked it up.

I mean if there are two frequencies, and one transmitter is a constant 1/4 second behind, then that one is fed by a satellite receiver.

It's not quite the same but back in analogue days I used to have a computer with a TV card in. I did find that when I had a TV program on the computer at the same time as the normal TV there was a delay of that sort of time between the two. I took it to be the processing time in the computer as they were using the same input signal.

I agree.
The TV card in the computer will have some digital stuff in it to convert the images into VGA or whatever the screen was. There will indeed be some processing time involved.

Thanks. That was what I was trying to say. Two transmitters but the routes to them via whatever take a different amount of time.
