No chain saw Terry - years and years of overdoing it at the gym, and yes I was that idiot who bench pressed more than my mates .  The rotor cuff had a three inch tear (just been repaired) and I have torn off one of the muscles of my right bicep - (so I have a cep) - not sure if that can be repaired.  The surgeon said the damage was cumulative and now that I am in my 60's things are more likely to give way.

Just about 7 months ago I stopped the weights due to my dodgy shoulder but stayed with M Biking - I was at the front of the pack going downhill (off-road) at around 24 MPH and turned sharpish left - didn't know I had got a slow puncture a bit earlier and when I turned the wheel it folded - I came off and I managed to land on my hip - thankfully not broken but massive bruise and a big lump like jelly that's still  there.  Mrs Unreal thinks I am an idiot (no comments please)

They are building a new sports centre in Romford with a big swimming pool so its gentle cycling, walking and swimming for me now.

OK so

Starts with 242 a/c in - 10.5 out

Then 8.3 out of the bridge rectifier - 6.4 out of the regulator

with 2 * 10 Ohms as the load 8.2 out of the bridge rectifier .33 out of the regulator

Something very wrong there. With 10.5V AC into the bridge there should be around 14VDC out off load. That's 1.414 x VAC less the diode drops.

OK - first thing to say is that heat sink will be far too small for continuous use. It should allow the unit to run for a few 10s of seconds before overheating - perhaps a bit more - but as it is, it'll need a major upgrade. Once the lid is on that (lovely!) wooden box, the lack of airflow will be a problem for any heat sink. Really, one entire surface of that box should be a finned heat sink. Or, use an aluminium box.

And, the rectifier will need to be mounted on the heat sink.

I can't see enough detail in those pictures, so can't be sure about the wiring. Does the +ve from the rectifier go via that black wire?

Check for a faulty bridge, or for dry joints that pass enough to power the thing with no load, but not the full 1A.

No need to dismantle whole thing at this stage - finding where the problem is will be useful experience.
