It's a pity he wants a silly price otherwise it would be worth going and getting them, just to see the differences.
Nearly all the wooden Pyes that I know of have sloping tops. Perhaps it was to discourage the lady of the house from putting a (wet) plant pot on top.

hi allen, i think it was a design idea so that the dial would be looking up at you, otherwise with a straight up set you have to bend to see the dial,

hi joe . i like your pics, especially the philips 634a, ive got one here working [sort of] two large resisters overheat when i put the full 220v in , but the set works fine when using the lamplimiter, philips have a factory in dublin since the 20s, the dial was missing on mine when i got it but i got a guy in holland to make one for me , it cost an arm and a leg. regards maitiu.

I think my current ewe lamb is my Bush VHF61, probably followed by the VHF90. I've just bought a broken VHF70 so that will be another to keep me out of mischief.
