All of the reproduction dials shown in the article are of the 'back-lit' variety rather than on glass, nevertheless many of the techniques are equally applicable to both types. Particularly the creation of the dial using a graphics software package and when making a combination paper/film dial such as Gary's KB BM30 dial and my own Bush BP10 shown earlier.

However, I'm willing to bet that your original BP10 dial has black legends rather than the red shown on mine? So here is the corresponding graphic;

   

I've three BP10's (I did have another but sold it to you Rob along with a Bush BP61, do you remember that a couple of years back?) and the red dial was on the first set I acquired. So far I've yet to see another as black seems to be the standard for this model.

Ah ha! Penny dropped! Thank you again. If you recall I have a second BP10 (one of my favourite Bush radios - sheer elegance in its design I believe!) and it too has a black letter dial.

The only reason I stopped restoration on the set was the battery pack eliminator which I created an etched board and have all the components to complete.

I'm sure you will have told me at the time, but to be honest I can't recall you mentioning a second BP10 that you had. In any case, I didn't think you needed a dial replacement for the set I sold you, rather I assumed you'd picked another set up in the mean time.

Regarding making a repro dial. I found I could clean all traces of the original dial from the semi-circular plastic using Brasso wadding, if you look at the image of the badly erased dial it was beyond saving anyhow.

I then fixed the replacement paper/film dial inside which obviously gave it the correct shape and protected it at the same time. The end result appears quite original, I will add an image of the set later.

And here is the red repro BP10 dial fitted into the set;

   

The two red dots (one either end of the clear tuning window) are a little fainter on the inkjet film than the rest of the red legend which is on photo paper, but I don't think it's too noticeable.

This was one of my very first attempts at making reproduction dials about 5 or so years ago now. Even so, I was more than happy with how it turned out and the overall appearance of the set. Something of an improvement on the flaky, half-erased original in any case.
