That looks an interesting item, as does Maitiu's example.

As Alan says, although it's described by the seller as an 'aerial' it does have an aerial input socket, and seems to be an aerial amplifier, so whether it also has an internal frame aerial is anyone's guess. Interesting use of French to decribe the mains input as 'alimentation' which literally means 'food' in English. 'Puisance' is the term for power, but I think that applies to power output rather than input.

Obviously not a clandestine item, - it looks pre-war, and would very soon be detected. In any event, after France surrendered to the Germans, it was under 'Vichy Rule' - life went on more or less as before, with the French Government, police etc, running the country under an uneasy peace, as directed by the Germans. Many French people were unhappy about the Maquis - the French resistance -because their activities often brought inidiscriminate reprisals against innocent French people unconnected with the resistance. (Perhaps the best example being Oradour Sur Glarne, which I'm visiting later this year, along with my wfe and younger son).

It will be interesting to see how much the 'aerial' sells for, so I've stuck it on my 'watch list' to see the end result.

hi, there are 3 or 4 of these paris picture aerials on display in the howth martello tower museum and lots of vintage radio gear as well, maitiu.

hi, ive got a picture aerial that was made and marketed by a radio co in dawson st dublin , over 60 years ago, its based on a primative wall picture frame arrangement used by french families during the german occupation, as the nazies dident want anyone listening to allied broadcasts, my version is known as an anti static paris aerial , and contains two coils , one for med and the other for longwave, also contains a variable cap, and some caps in the circuits, it certainly helps to give some sensativity to the old sets , and helps to spaceout stations that are on top of each other,

Interesting things those aerials/amplifiers. It will make a nice restoration project for someone, with no complications over batteries as it's mains powered.

I asume that you intended to add a link or an attachment, but there was no attachment.

To attach a pic or a file you need to go down to 'New Attachment', click on 'Browse', open the pic from 'My Pictures' or wherever you've stored it, then on the right hand side of the screen, cick on 'Add Attachment'. Wait a few secs and it will add it, then under 'New Attchment' you'll see the name of the attachment. Unfortunately, if you then click 'Preview Post', though you'll be able to check that your attachment has been added, you won't be able to view it till you've posted the message - all that you'll see is a little red box with an 'x' in it. However, the forum software allows you to edit your post at any time - if for example you've added the wrong pic or file. You can add or remove attachments or edit any of your posts at any time, but you can't delete the whole post except by contacting a moderator. (You could of course empty the whole of the text and remove the attachments though, leaving a blank post, which is a bit quirky!).

btw david ,the paris aerial doesent contain mains power or otherwise, its just connected into the aerial socket on the chasis of the radio.maitiu.
