Thank you Andrew for taking the trouble to take the snaps. Very impressive.
I have e-mailed the college via the website to see if they can confirm what we suspect. We have his service record from 1923 which confirms that he was a blacksmith in the RFC (Royal Flying Corps). Whether they can link him to the gates remains to be seen.
Thanks Andrew.
Make sure you don't get locked up by the M.P's. though!
A number of years ago we had a rep. from LG who got lost near Huntingdon.
He pulled into the entrance to a house to look at his map and was immediately surrounded by armed police. He had pulled into John Major's driveway!
Opps, I will try and avoid that situation. Mind you, despite the guns on the gate the place is full of holes, there is a public footpath that runs right through the middle of the camp and the locals walk dogs on the old grass airfield!
When I was in The Air Cadets we had a Summer Camp at RAF Locking in Somerset. I think it was a wireless training station. One evening while the Station's Royal flag was being lowered, with everybody standing to attention, the officer spotted a workman kipping on the Parade Ground grass verge. Afterwards he ordered the NCO to remove the civilian from the area.
I bet he wouldn't let you walk your dog through his station!

Have you heard back yet, Roger?

Hi Joe,
Not yet but I know the MoD can be slow in responding.
It would have been nice to have received an acknowledgement for the e-mail though.
We contacted them regarding my late Father in law's wartime medals some time back. They took about 6 months to answer the letter then.
Thanks for asking Joe. I will post any developments if received.
