I picked up this boxed travel Iron at the local car boot Sunday (not a radio set in sight!)

I seem to remember someone here saying they collected old irons?

If so it can be yours for the £2.00 I paid for it plus any P&P

Those were the days Andrew, no Health and Safety then. A nice single insulation flex with no earthing. Best of all a BC bayonet plug to plug into the living room hanging light bulb holder!
I remember you used to be able to buy a BC 2-Way adaptor, to use in your hanging light socket, so you could either plug the iron, wireless or vac into it.
The Government did make them illegal for safety reasons. Woolworth's bought up the stock and continued selling them. They were eventually fined something nominal but by that time they had made a killing, perhaps literally, being the only firm selling them.

Yes, this one has the lead to plug into a bulb socket. The woman I bought it off thought it would be good for holidays! I did explain that I knew a collector who would use it as a display item. Now I just have to figure out who that collector is!

By the way Andrew, my wife's Grandfather supposedly made the entrance gates to RAF Cranwell. I wonder if they are still there!

Interesting ...

The base itself doesn't have much in the way of gates, however the RAF College has some rather wonderful brick and wrought iron gates ... I can get a photo next time I'm driving that way if it is of any interest...
