Wavechange switch arcing over? I had that in an Ekco two weeks ago, I had restored it a few weeks previously and one day it broke out in a fit of crackling and sparks.
Best to get it all apart, switch it on and watch VERY carefully! Reminds me of my old Pye R31 when I first got it, a thermistor when pop and rather a lot of smoke and sparks came out the back :D

Ok, its taken a while but I finally have the chassis out of the Fenman again, I can see no evidence of exploded components (which is what I suspected) However there was a blob of new wax in the base of the case, it looks as thought this has come off the bottom of the mains transformer, so I assume this is running hot.

Any thoughts?

No, I only changed 'that' cap, however I think its dripping off the mains transformer, there is melted wax on the bottom of the transformer.

What sort of wax? Pye usually used black wax which doesn't run, but it does 'crackle and pop' if the transformer is overloaded or faulty.

Hi, The wax looks dark brown, see attached pics. It certainly crackled and popped!

Me too. The OPT is on the top of the chassis.

Yes, according to the Service Sheet that's the Mains transformer. The O/P transformer is on the top of the chassis at an angle.
That's a very odd piece of mains cable!
Anyway, a bit of wax dripping off the transformer over the years isn't unusual. The burning question is what is it doing now?
If you run it out of the case how hot does it, or anything else, get?
