I haven't yet found an easy way to get programs to auto-start after boot. In Windows it's easy, just copy a shortcut to the startup folder.

On my main PC the startup folder contains Windows Explorer, Thunderbird email and Firefox. I know I could start them all manually but it's nice not to have to bother. I'm lazy that way.

i'm considering building a new high performance PC for Linux. The Xilinx tools will take as much CPU power as you can throw at them. I've not a built a PC from scratch before now but have been browsing a few sites. Obviously I need to use parts that work well with Linux. Likely BOM at the moment:

1: Nice simple non flashy case. Beige if they still do them Otherwise black.
2: Motherboard suitable for the chosen CPU
3: CPU. AMD or Intel. Passmark to be significantly better than my current main PC which is about 9000
4: 32GB RAM
5: SSD. Probably one that will plug into a PCIe slot. (M2.1) Corsair, Sandisk and others and others do nice looking parts. Around £100 for 1TB
6: Graphics card. I need dual HDMI or 1 each of Display port and HDMI. Don't need anything spectacular
7: 500W min PSU. Possibly a silent or near silent one.

Not sure where the USB port stuff comes in. Possibly supplied with case or mobo?
