Hi.
Never used package manager TBH and I never really have needed to. All packages have worked fine for me and the update manager has done any necessary updates in a timely manner.
I've more recently been using "terminal" for adding software that is not available from "software manager" by using Sudo apt-get or Sudo install "........."
Saturday night I installed "Handbrake" (a DVD to MP4 etc converter) all via terminal.
Here is a picture of my desktop on the laptop.
