Although I have spent a good chunk of my life living in Gloucestershire (probably the major part, too), I don't really have sufficient experience of those areas to make an appropriately-judged & informed comment, except that I do believe that Cam has a smaller population than the other two locations: the significance and relevance of that to your experiences is open to debate, of course. Generally speaking, it is north Glos. that I am more familiar with than the southern regions, i.e. the locations of the places that you have listed.

Cam and Dursley combined have a population of around 10,000 with Cam having the larger portion. Don't get me wrong, we loved the place and made good friends (all incomers like us), just that the long term residents seemed to be resentful for some reason.

My friend in Tewkesbury had exactly the opposite experience where he was made welcome.
