if you want a valve set i too would look for a singel std the advantage of getting a brc 1500 is the mass of info about it.
a bullet proof lopt ,and no rare chips or valves,pye 169 nice looking set but taa700's are getting scarse.
for a hard wired chassis how about a kb vc100 no chips at all.
another set i liked to work on is bush tv181 serries
i cant remember ever repairing a valve decca monocrome s/std so cant comment

if its made by hand it can be repaired by hand
