Isn't that the difference between a mechanical engineer and an electrical engineer?
One washes his hands before, and the other afterwards...
Whilst doing Technical Drawing at college, my tutor would often comment about grubby marks spoiling an otherwise neat drawing. My retort was that I was used to washing my hands after doing a job, not before.
On a serious note, it is a good idea to wash your hands before going to the toilet, especially if you've been handling oily or pitch covered parts.
BTW love the Dick and Smithy cartoons, especially the one of Dick folding up a chassis with a garden fork.
