Hi.
Just another point with the Pi. It you are streaming to an AM pantry transmitter using a DAC hat is a waste of money. AM frequency response is considerably worse than the AF standard output from a Pi.
Switching from standard to that off a hifiberry DAC to me gives no audio advantage whatsoever when using an AM radio. There is improvement when feeding audio to a decent hifi from the hifiberry though. Again using an FM pantry transmitter there is a small improvement especially if its stereo.

After the the disasters with the Pi3 versions I'll say the 4b version is brilliant. 

The 4b is a plausible desktop replacement, especially the 8Gb version. What issues did you have with the 3 series?

Hi Nick.
Most likely me TBH but there were a few things that just wouldn't run or it would crash unexpectedly.
I've two Pi4b one 2gb and the other 4gb. I may consider an 8gb version too. They are a massive improvement on all the previous versions.

One thing I'd like to find out is can you change modelines on Pi4, if so it could be a very cheap TV standards converter.

Yes, you can but that's a separate app whereas the general apps allow you log all your favourite stations in one place but not if they have limitations.

Hi.
I'm not implying that the apps all work well, one we tried was so bad that only one or two stations would play and those that did buffered constantly.
That's my biggest grouse about Internet radio as many things can cause buffering not just your own connection.
One reason I like to record my own selection of music and play it back.
Occasionally you get a song on the radio that reminds you of a person or something that happened in the past that is upsetting so I do tend to avoid that scenario and stream my own stuff.

I haven't yet routinely streamed radio and have only ever done it on a desktop PC. One day I'll get round to having something attached to my hifi.

This may not be obvious to everyone, but anything that can stream music from the internet can also do it from files (mp3, wav, ogg etc) stored on your own network.

A couple of other options as sources are:-
A. if you use Apple stuff the Airport Express which you can control from any Apple device and stream music to the 3.5mm socket and feed your pantry transmitter,
B. or an Amazon Echo which also has a 3.5mm jack and can be controlled by talking to it i.e. "Alexa play Times Radio" or "Alexa Play 1940s UK Radio" works well for me and the Amazon Echo is only £19 for the next couple of days if you are signed up to Prime.
I have used both methods successfully.
