Content of some sites sometime slow to load-why?

Some (most?) of you may not have seen the message that you get, if you live 'out in the sticks' like I do...
Here are my speedtest results :
       

This is faster than what Old Sparky is getting though !

You should send those results to Nicola Sturgeon. The Scottish government promised high speed broadband to everyone.

The results vary a lot during the day. They drop a little around four and yesterday it was a bigger drop, the schools were back here yesterday and no doubt due to the sprogs on the net.
This morning I have run another test but with three different "speedtests" Talk Talk tester didn't save the upload speed but came back as 9.8mps.
           

The laptop is connected via Wi-Fi.
I get faster speed in the shed which has a 15 meter Cat5 cable to the router and a Lan switch in the shed!

Replying to posts #59 & 60, AFAIK, Mark, my master socket is an NTES one. It was fitted by BT maybe 10 years ago now. Refugee, I may get a longer Cat. 5 cable. A question is 'why, when, after checking BT's troubleshooting pages, I plugged a microfilter into the master sockett, then plugged my extension lead into said filter, amessage 'you are not connected to the internet' appeared, and the internet LED on my TT Router wasn't lit? (I still had a microfilter plugged into my extension socket, b.t.w.

You must only have one microfilter.
Mine is built into the master socket so that you have to take the front off to remove it. Then you can test it with one of the filters that come with a router.

Here is the result from the shed.
No Wi-Fi just the 15m Lan cable and Lan switch. Much faster and always is.

Did you allow a minute or so for the connection to re-sync and then re-connect? Most modem/routers have separate lights for DSL sync and internet connection. Obviously the DSL must sync first, to establish a connection to your local telephone exchange. Only then can the router connect to your ISP.

It was maybe under a minute between my fitting the microfilter to the master socket, when I received the 'no internet connection' message from Talk Talk. Re-connecting my extension lead without the filter at the M.S. end restored correct operation, so I'll leave it that way for now. I can't help wondering if some external problem is causing the slow download speeds, though, given that my set-up hasn't been changed.

I'm sure if you had a car that could do 80mph and suddenly only did 25mph you'd do something about it. Its clearly not right, I'd not be happy till it was put to rights.
