I should know more about them this time tomorrow. Whether I keep these and shift some others remains to be seen.

I've now collected my booty.

The transistor sets are:-

Green Roberts R200: broken handle and no battery snaps. It's also a late one so no doubt has dodgy AF117s.

Bush VTR330: No handle but looks OK otherwise, including the aerial.

Defiant: Unknown model but with flat PP11.

Perdio Challenge: Broken handle.

Good Companion: Has a toggle switch on the back connected to the positive battery lead. No sign of the negative one.

Philco Ford T162X HG: Should run on 3V but has got a PP3 in.

Hacker Sovereign II: Fantastic condition - wrong speaker, no handle or back grill, broken aerial, scuffed rexine. In other words ripe for improvement.

The GEC valve set is a BC5842. First thing with that will be changing the mains lead.

I've stuck some juice up the Mayflower and that works, though I couldn't resolve the Light Programme, probably an aerial problem. It got the Third OK and the tuning indicator is nice and bright. I daren't leave it on for long before properly looking at it. Cosmetically it just wants a polish.

The next job will be trying to make room to manoeuvre.

The GEC and Bush valve sets also at least basically function.

For now I'm busy with furniture repairs so the radios will have to wait a bit.

Thanks to young Joe, I now have the Hacker Mayflower II, which despite not being worked on sounds exceptionally good.
A bit of fettling should see it back to full health.
Amazing sound quality and pleasing on the eye.

If they haven't been done recently, get those grid couplers changed ASAP!

The ECL86 output valves are quite pricey, so don't mess about.

And check the electrolytics in the audio amp. Also check for resistors failing high.

What is the serial number?

Nice haul, Joe. The Good Companion was a kit set as you may already know: I've a complete and working one here so give me a shout if anything especially confusing has been done to yours, but it'll probably be straightforward enough. They were quite sensible as kit sets went, none of your Radio Exchange gubbins with floating wires to adjust and wooden aerial rods

hi joe ,does the tr130 have caroline on the med wave bandspread, for if it does it would make it valuable to collectors. the b.b.c put pressure on bush back then to discontinue production of the version with caroline on the dial, so there wer'ent many about , regards maitiu.

Hi, I have two TR130s with Caroline on the band-spread dial. I worked I the factory in Skegness Lincolnshire, where they were made. They were still in production, right up till the factory closed in June 1975. I have a very low serial No VTR330 which was prototyped in 1973/4 and launched in 1974, it lasted less than a year before being discontinued when the factory closed.
