Snap.do

Its dawned on me SnapDo is a browser Hijacker and MS is not responsible for browsers. It was part of the non-monopoly policy and so we have many different browsers. System Restore isnt going to put Goggle, Firefox etc back as they were. I suppose it might do for IE users.

One day I’ll try it!!

I think Chrome was thought to be more rapid for under resourced PCs. But for fast PCs and pipes I doubt if there is much difference between it and IE 9, soon to be 10 but I will wait awhile.

I dont understand your film download speeds, oh! actually I do but I'm being polite.

You quoted 2.4 Mb/s but you ment 2.4MB/s. b is the generally accepted abbreviation for bits and B for bytes.

There are 8 bits in a byte but there are also housekeeping bits added, an overhead if you like. A crude rule of thumb is to multiply bytes by 10 to get bits. So your 2.4MB/s is approximately 24Mb/s which is a near enough to what the 'standard' Virgin pipe is (they quote 20Mb/s). I have that too and just checked it and mine is running at 19.1Mb so nothing to complain about there. Upload speed is about a tenth of download. Another often used abbreviation is to not to use the /s, its taken as read.

Virgin do have 50Mb and I believe 100Mb if you are prepared to pay for it. But of course you need the hardware to keep up with it (as you showed your old PC was resource limited) and would need to access vey fast servers for it to pay off.

Easy to use Speed Checker here: http://www.uswitch.com/broadband/

Hi,

Well done Gary in spotting my speed error and thanks for adding the additional information explaining the difference between bits & bytes; shows just how little I know about computers?

Out of curiosity I ran the speed test and my broadband (Virgin) topped out just over 20Mb so like you Gary I'm happy.

A miracle occurred here on Wednesday; my black hole disappeared to be replaced by warm sunshine.

Kind regards, Col.
