OK - that's excellent news!
To cure the motorboating, there is a mod. Yours is quite an early set, so perhaps doesn't have it. It involves running an earth wire from the ground trace on the tone control PCB to an adjacent earth tag on the chassis or volume control. Of course, that involves full chassis removal.
The text looks OK on Firefox, IE and Chrome. I don't have Opera installed on this machine. It is not quite black, but pretty black. The background is nearly white, so the contrast should be good enough. How do other sites appear to you?
