In the 1950s, Philips produced multi-system tube television receivers for the Dutch, French, and Belgian markets. Many of them featured a large picture tube, allowing for comfortable operation. Later, the development of the national television industry meant that Philips' multi-system devices were no longer necessary. Each country had its own television sets. It's puzzling why, in the early 1970s, Sony returned to multi-system receivers, especially with small picture tubes. Technology was advancing at the time. Modern Trinitron color televisions were already on the market. Perhaps their marketing strategy was aimed at reaching all European countries. It's worth noting that they even created a model specifically for the English market, the 9-90UB (405/625). Perhaps Sony was actually trying to promote camcorders and VTRs through small televisions, suitable primarily for surveillance systems. Advertising brochures of the time list all these devices under the CCIR banner.
Do televisions with 405/819 systems exist? I suppose patent protection might have made it difficult to produce such receivers in France or England.
