It should have a little throw-out wire aerial would on a little board slotted into the top left-hand of the case Rob.

Nice little sets - I especially like the dial on them. Any set made from 1948 on will have the Third Programme on the dial, but perhaps it pre-dates that.

My 1939 Pilot Little Maestro has the rounded corners to the cabinet front making it look a pretty little set. I wrote the restoration story up as work in progress at the time and hope the thread I've just added is of some use to you Rob. Good luck.

Hi All,
Thanks for help/guidance so far.
I can confirm that this is indeed a post war set as it does a have transformer (well spotted Joe) tucked nicely underneath the chassis. Its also had some work undertaken on it but I would indicate that this must have been some time ago. Its full of dust too!!!
I think that it must be an 'in between' set as the dial does not have the Third Programme on the dial so I would put this as early 40's.

I have a distinct feeling that now the chassis is out of the case its begging to be 'electrically' restored.

I've noted that someone has cut my aerial off.
How long should this be and will it be ok to use 24/0.2 cable for this?

Do you have the former still in the slot on which the 'throw-out' aerial was wound Rob? If so, I'd say just wind enough flex wire around the former to fill it - it isn't critical. I assume that the former was just a piece of thin plywood - I don't know if anyone can throw any light on that? I've got the same model awaiting attention - it too has a mains transformer rather than a line cord, and I assumed that it was pre-war due to the lack of the Third Prog, but from what Tony says it must have been produced just after the war. I've attached a few pics including one which shows the aerial 'slots' under the top of the cabinet into which the aerial is stowed. I'd previously mentioned on the forum in another thread that the back on mine was in such a sorry state that I made a router jig, with which I made a new back for it, (which awaits being finished) but other more pressing projects such as erecting a new fence have got in the way, so the restoration has stalled

Hi David,
It appears I have the brother (or Sister) to your set although I have noted that the middle knob in your set is larger?
I noted the slot in the top of the case and did wonder what it was for (aerial of course - doh!) but I cant see a wire wound aerial like yours so this must be long gone.
The back on mine is complete but a wee bit warped.

Like yours, my aerial is missing Rob - just the slots where it is stowed are present. I've never actually seen a pic of an aerial to copy - the square edged sets seem less common than the rounded corner pre-war (line cord) sets - I don't know if they had the same aerial arrangement. I'll probably make a little former from a piece of plywood when I get round to restoring the set. As to the larger knob on my set, it's more than likely non-original, but it looks in keeping.
