I saw this on ebay and couldn't resist it at £15!
I note that this one doesnt have rounded sides - can anyone shed any light on this please?

Thanks for your reply. Its had the mains cord cut BUT it doesnt look like a resistive lead at all (its a transparent PVC coated mains lead) - any thoughts??

Hi Rob, what valves does it have. Please make sure if it is a line cord or not. If it is has it showing wear, brittle or frayed, replace you can still get line cord but its difficult to come by, and expensive, see it it shows voltage on back cover, circuit below it looks like its pre war 1940ish. Link below, it almost surely had a line cord., i like L13 Hum Buckle Coil...Alan.

Very nice, Rob. I think I'd have been tempted too.

It's possible that a numpty has taken the dropper cord off and put normal flex on with no substitute dropper with 'interesting' results.

As for the corners they made both styles but I can't remember which case first.

Don't just plug this in! Trader Sheet 444 tells you all that you need to know and yes it did have a resistive mains cord and one wih Asbestos in it too. So be careful.

What's more, it only had a single pole On/Off switch and that was on the earth line!

I'd fit a dual pole On/Off switch or switch the live side of the mains and go for a capacitive dropper.

The round cornered cabinet is the 1930's one, I have one of the rascals in the Kitchen.
It came with a homebrew 110v PSU with a round pin plug so you are unable to give it 240V. A very nice radio.

Someone had done all the work before me cabinet and all, it works well.

Rob, the wooden model you have is probably 1940-1946 and classed as 'post war'. You need to check if it uses a heater transformer - I'd be prepared to bet it does. If not, there may be much damage. A capacitive dropper could be fitted in place of any missing line cord.

It appears that mine is with the 6V6GT output valve suggesting that this is a later model.
