Hunts Capacitor testers CRB 2 from 1947 to 1949

Two more of my Capacitor testers made by Hunts in 1947 and in 1949 and in working order but one needs a new neon light 0.5 watt 240 volts SBC.

How ironic that they made such nice testers and yet became notorious for the failure of their caps more recently.
Do these testers themselves suffer from Hunts capacitor failure?

Hi Jeremy I restored a Hunts CRB-3 and use it on every restore to check caps. I always find it quite preverse when the HUNTS tester declares a HUNTS capacitor useless.

And yes the caps inside the CRB-3 were naff except the large electrolytic, I tested these on my Heathkit IT-28.

Hello Jeremy.
I have tested the caps in the two testers and all of them came out ok. I feel that better quality caps were used in Test equipment. The only fault with one of the testers is the Neon lamp not working. It is 0.5 watt 240 volts SBC. I Tested the caps with my Aerovox 75 .

They are MES I wonder if you could adapt and fit an MES holder, should be a pretty simple job.
I've attached the picture of the bulb both Kevins' and mine take its an SBC

Hi Kev,
You are most welcome as I really like to see old test kit in fully working condition and its a shame if this doesn't happen because of the lack of a component or two.
