Good evening,

Just saying hello. I was on a different vintage radio forum a few years ago for the same purpose as I joined this.

I am in the Glasgow area and have a Bush DAC 90 A that worked up until about 20 years ago. I would like to get it repaired and (hopefully) have it added to with a suitable circuit to accept an input from a phone or DAB radio. Life events took over previously, but things are now looking sufficiently positive to move on with plans.

Looking forward to being part of the forum.

The DAC90A is an easy set to work on, well documented and there are loads about. Bluetooth will be simple but this is a set with a non isolated chassis and the danger of  electrocution must always be borne in mind.
Some idea of you're abilities and equipment at your disposal would help greatly for members to give you advice.

Main issues are the paper capacitors, sometimes faulty output valve, sometimes its transformer and the mains dropper.
I restored the related DAC10 (adds Bakelite back and preset stations) which is similar.

When working the DAC90A is a very good set, simple, elegant and does what is says on the tin. Given the scarcity of good LW/MW stations these do work with "pantry" transmitters nicely.

You need someone nearby as shipping anything bakelite is tricky. Actually shipping anything, even packed in a box, padded inside a box only mostly works. One person saw the box I'd sent him literally being thrown out of the back of the truck. I once had a PC case delivered and thought the tyre mark on the carton was odd. The cardboard and internal foam packing had sprung back, but one end of the case was completely crushed.

Yes, I am looking for someone local or at least within a reasonable driving distance for me to deliver to / collect from.

There was someone in Kilmarnock on the previous forum, but I do not know if he is on here.

You're probably thinking of Trevor who is certainly in your area. I think he stopped doing repairs for others a few years ago. I'm sure he still looks at this forum from time to time and will respond if he's willing to help. Ed Dinning in the Newcastle area might be willing to help but he's a long way south of you.
