Visiting the Radio Museum in Somerset

Last week I visited the Radio Museum in Watchet, Somerset. https://www.radiomuseum.uk/

This lovely museum is owned and run by Neil, who has put it together almost singlehandedly.  Highly recommended.

As well as domestic sets there is much equipment from the transmission side of radio, from microphones to transmitters. This is very rare indeed, since there were never very many of these items.

I must be ancient. I remember some of those sort of mixing desks, reel portables and record deck. Though they were old stuff even then.

When you see things in a museum that you use frequently i wonder if I have a house or (living) museum. I thing the wife knows, I won't be asking!

I visited early August - I'd definitely recommend!

It's under 5 minutes walk from Watchet station, on the West Somerset railway - I caught a train from Minehead - it made a very good day out.

He has on display a fraction of what he has, and it's well laid out. I'm going to remember the collection if I end up with anything to restore that has bits missing or detached.

There's a lot of stuff, all very cleverly displayed in a small space. Neil also showed me the back rooms where there's a load more, packed in rather tightly and not easy to access.

It is! But instead I drove to Minehead, stopping there, caught the train with my folding bike, visited the Museum, explored Watchet, then spent the rest of thee dayon the train, boarding at one station, getting off at another, cycling forward or backward to yet another along Somerset lanes, admiring the various station buildings while patronising the tea / coffee facilities... It was a super day out!
