A few years ago I bought an interesting corner TV Ambassador TV2. The seller approached the sale with nonchalance and send the package as a regular wrapping it only with cardboard. Having received the parcel, its state left a lot to be desired as well as its content. The case survived without any cracks nonetheless chassis was disparted. The CRT was rubble. All the valves, which previous owner decided to keep for himself, were missing. I gave the case to have it repaired to a friend of mine, who has been renovating old furniture for 40 years. He restored the old splendour to the TV box, which took him a year and a half. For the next year I was searching a CRT, it eventually arrived in an armoured package, without any damages. Two months I was waiting for the valves to be completed. I finally decided to deal with chassis. This model has an interesting frame vertical deflection transformer similar to the Baird T163. I was surprised that the vertical coils on both sides of the CRT neck are cut off. In the commonly available diagram, it is L27 and L28. At the beginning, I suspected the seller's sabotage. However, I discovered that the electrical system of my TV set is designed as though the above-mentioned coils were never used and at the same is unfortunately different from the one in the diagram. I couldn’t see any traces of soldering. Thus, questions arose: Why did someone cut the coils off? Will the TV in its current electric shape work? Whether to restore the TV's electrical system to the state as it is shown in the diagram, especially since the cut-off coils are not damaged and can theoretically be used. I also looked into an old English-language service book from the 1950s. I was surprised when I found a slightly different scheme of the vertical deflection system for TV Ambassador TV2. The diagram accurately reflects the current electrical layout of my TV. The L27 and L28 coils were eliminated. I therefore conclude that the TV2 model was upgraded and the vertical coils may have been cut off at the factory. Nevertheless I still plan a further rebuilding of the TV without its electrical modifications, i.e. without L27 / L28.
Coils L29 and L30 form a transformer located horizontally under the neck of the CRT and create a magnetic field for vertical deflection. Direct current from the power supply flows through the L27/L28 coils, which modulates the operation of L29/L30 (?) I will be grateful for any comments. And by the way, there is a problem with the corner TV, because it can only stand in the corner.
