I was reading a book about Rory Gallagher, there was a humorous anecdote about a guy who bought an electric guitar but unable to afford an amplifier just put a mains plug on the end of the lead, plugged it into the mains and proceeded to play. It is folk law that he carried the six parallel scares on his hands for the rest of his life but never had to pay for a Guinness again.
Now, my duff transformer. On the bench I'm getting open between BL & BK, YW & WH and BL & YW. 10ohm between BK & RED and WH & RED, 40 ohm BK & WH.
If I can find what the resistance should be between BL & BK and YW & WH ( from my good transformer ), yes you've guessed it, how about a resistor between the said wires?.
Will this get me free drinks at the pub?.

Hi, looks like a duff transformer, but if you used a DVM, depending on type, it can give misleading readings on transformers. It looks as if one half of the primary is burnt out and the other half has interturn shorts

The sort of figures I would expect from A-Sc 100R, SC=HT, 200R, Ht to Sc 250R, SC to A 150R
Secs would be an ohm or so

It's toast. If you've the time take it apart to see how it's put together & see if it's fixable, but DON'T plug it into the mains or try testing if a circuit is live with your fingers or tongue, they don't serve Guinness up there but may do down there, with Bushmills chases probably. Either way your street cred will be zero.

I Knew an electrician who used to test if anything was live by quickly touching the wires, if he got a shock he then got his MM out to measure the currant. Pleasant bloke but a bit 'odd'.

When young and stupid I built one of those squiggly wire things where you have to go from one end to the other passing a loop of wire over the "maze" without making a buzzer go beep. My version had two pads for the left hand wired to the mains so if you touched the wire you got a belt. Problem was after a few shocks ones hand shook too much to be able to complete the challenge. I couldn't get many people to play it.

A few years later I thought it fun to self induce electric shocks whilst high on various substances. Now some 30 years later I still like mucking about with very high voltages but have more respect for it's potential consequences. Pun intended.
