Junk Mail

Seem to be getting a lot of this:  probably from online shopping and looking for items.

I used to think was all that was needed was to add them to Blocked Sender and Domain list and they wouldnt get to my Inbox but this no longer seems the case.

E-Mail is via OE Classic on W10.

Any ideas how they get around this

I sometimes think that these email providers are not the ones to be policing it as they are also in a good position to provide potential customers. Conflicts of interests. With my Microsoft email I recently attempted to agressively reduce the spam and ended up with things being 10 times as bad. I do wonder as Microsoft should know far more about their systems than anyone but I have several email accounts and my Microsoft one is the worst by orders of magnitude. That said, I did see online that they have had an increased problem with it recently.

In answer, the only way I have found is to change provider, although maybe if you paid for their premium service it would work better? Not a route for me though.

I suspect that OE Classic doesn't have very good spam filtering.

I switched to Thunderbird for email many years ago. Its spam filtering is OK but not perfect. If you decide to switch to Thunderbird it can easily import everything from OE.

I have my own domain (borinsky.co.uk) so I use a different email address for every organisation I deal with. Usually in the form yourorganisation@bori...etc. Then if an organisation gets hacked I can block the offending address and use a new one with them if necessary. It has happened with large and respectable companies. I appreciate that having your own domain isn't the right approach for most people.

Not part of Gary's question but always avoid using email addresses linked to your ISP. That's a historic approach which is almost guaranteed to give you trouble at some point. Usually if you move to a different ISP but other troubles are possible. Spammers are quite adept at varying the e-mail just enough to get around that last spam filter rule.
Just keep putting them in the spam folder.

I switch off hosting supplied spam filters.
Thunderbird manages fine and a false positive on a cloud service is a pain.

I use Firefox adblocker and Microsoft e-mail.
Any unwanted e-mails go to junk and block sender.

I don't know if cookies can lead to getting unwanted e-mails, but I delete them all each evening when I close down my laptop, except for a few trusted ones.
I subscribe to a number of message boards but I can remember my log-in details.
Message boards put different numbers of cookies on your computer, when you go on their site, some as low as one or two, a coffee forum to which I subscribe put 29. I delete most of those those. This site adds 5,
Youtube is the worst, you can end up with 100. Amazon won't let you look at anything without agreeing to cookies.
I think all sites should give you a straight option, "yes or no" to cookies, some do, but others make you go round the houses finding the least number with which to agree.
I rarely get unsolicited e-mails, not that I see, a lot seem to go to junk and block sender.

Most junk mail comes from some sites/forums being hacked and/or selling email lists on the dark web. Some of the worst offenders are adult sites and some of those free online games, e-cards etc.

Any spam I receive goes to junk mail and block sender, with microsoft mail.
I'm not aware of mail coming more than once having been blocked.

Each evening when I close down my laptop, I also religiously delete all cookies other than those which save passwords.
Even those for YouTube.
