RS Pro soldering station

I have been given one of these sodlering stations. Base unit, iron, stand and a few bits. All look in good condition with little use.

Is it worth keeping? I normally use Weller TCP1 irons and have lots of spares for them.

Only way to find out is to use it Jeffrey on the same sort of work you usually do. Like any tools you can't have too many, there's always a time when you need an extra long screwdriver or a hammer that goes round corners.

I cannot afford stuff from RS anymore, but my previous experiences with them seems that even the chinese stuff is from the upside.

I use Hakko soldering irons. Made in China  .
Ive had them for 20 years, and apart from tips, havent had a problem.

You COULD of course get one made by Shagwha. the rusting V12 cars made in engrund.
To change or even check the spark plugs requires removing the whole drivetrain, OR cutting some big holes in the firewall.

IF its a Chinese soldering iron, it will only cost $20 to repair in any case.
I agree with TCP1's, I ran factories with 40 girls using them 8 hours a day, they didnt break down ( very often ).

BUT, the wheel weaves as the wheel will. Give it a go, WITH an open mind.

A decision is made. It's going to the BECG. We need decent soldering kit up there.

There were a couple of small rolls of lead-free solder with the iron. Evil stuff.

Another RS Pro soldering station. RS number: 799-8941. Bought this tool last year. Soldering tips seem to have limited use.

" A sentiment more apt for lead solder, what happens if a small child where to swallow a roll or a small boy were to trip over a roll and fall down a well? Doesn't bear thinking about, I keep mine locked in a safe, just in case.
