What's this conenctor and cable?

Help please. I've found this cable in a box of stuff and have no idea what it's for. It's hard to take a meaningful shot of the connector. The bit that inserts into the socket is about 10mm across. Looking in the end of the conenctor I can see 5 contacts on one side of the centre. Possibly more on the other side. Plus a metal shield round the outside.

Any ideas?

Looking at Firewire 800 online I think you're right. Thank you. I've never used Firewire/1394 for anything so I don't know where the cable came from.

Probably came with a mac or a mac external disc, haven't seen them used on much else - Firewire 400 was popular for external HDs on audio kit and some DV cameras but I've only seen FW800 on macs/imacs. Some of the later rugged Lacie HDs included both - FW400 for location recordists and FW800 for the dubbing theatre macs.
