I've had this unit for around ten years in which time, other than a dimming of the display,
it's been reliable and performs pretty well.
Recently I noticed the standby clock display had disappeared and the unit was completely dead.
Thinking SMPS I made a visual check of the caps (were the tops bulging) and the other components.
There is some evidence of heat around some but nothing that looks serious.
Further prodding and poking and suddenly I noticed the cooling fan had started up....and then the
machine came alive as if nothing had ever been wrong...and this morning it's still working OK.
Aside from the mystery failure, the question I have relates to what remains powered-up when the
machine is supposedly off?
The machine has no standby light but I have discovered that parts of the SMPS remain warm.
In particular its largest transformer is really quite warm to the touch...and presumably remains so.
Is that normal or indicative of some problem?
Grateful for any insights
Trevor.
