I decided to go back to first principles and I have found that in disconnecting the switch from the circuit there is no continuity across the contact whether switched on or not. Do I assume then that the mains switch is dead? Will there be any advantage in wiring in a dpdt mains switch now rather than using one on the volume control? This should get around the original speaker 'pop' when switching off that I had before. Also will the volume pot work without the switch (I assume that it will?)
