Yes, one disk /cell easily manages 30V PIV so battery charger rectifiers often large rather than multi-segment. Copper Oxide is much lower PIV, I think.
Wasn't a Westector - obviously a contraction of Westinghouse detector, a copper oxide based rectifier? Four Copper Oxide rectifiers were used for ring diode modulators and demodulators in the 1930s for "carrier" phone systems. Phone systems used SSB years before it was used for radio. You can make your own copper oxide rectifiers, though it's tricky. No chemicals needed. |
