Amie, if those packages are the same as those I remember from 1960 on, they were red with a cellophane window so that you could see the resistors inside, each one neatly mounted onto a strip of white card by bending the wires back on themselves. You could see instantly how many you had left!
These ones are in cellophane bags, (red with clear window), of ten with the wires held in two strips of corrugated cardboard that is stuck to thin card with the date and reorder information on, and most amusing, the four figure telephone number.

I've also some Erie ceramic capacitor packs from that era, that are still perfectly usable, I prefer not to open them though, to me its history....
