Cause of Dim Display in a Pure 'The Bug' DAB Radio

Thinking it might just be failed bulbs, I opened the display panel up, bot no sign of any illuminating bulbs, so maybe it could be a capacitor problem.  Of course I'll get no help or spares from Pure, but I wonder if anyone else has experienced this problem and knows the cause?

Those things are usually illuminated by tiny LEDs embedded in the display.
If they can be dug out and replaced you can change the colour of the display to something more interesting while you are at it.

I hadn't thought of that, Refugee, but I may not have time to peruse it further, as the radio's owner is coming to collect it around noon today.

These radios came out about 14 years ago, so it's perfectly possible that the graphics LCD is starting to fail. If the backlight is still good you can adjust the brightness through the menus. The manual is a free download from the Pure web site - it's easy to adjust.
