Flanders and Swann

I'm sure there are many GVR folk who love Flanders and Swann. Ruth pointed me to this on Youtube. Very little of john Amis and lots of F&S. Just as it should be.

Thanks for the link. Enjoyed watching that. I had a friend, sadly no longer with us, who was a singer and he would perform the "Hippopotamus Song" with me at the piano. Always good fun to play at OAP sing songs.

I recently picked up a 7" 45 from a charity shop with Ian Wallace singing the Hippo, Elephant and Rhino songs. Disc isn't in good condition but well worth the 50p. Wallace's autbiography is called "Promise me you'll sing mud".

I, too, am a Flanders & Swann fan, and have three of their LP's, including 'At the drop of a Hat and, At the drop of another Hat. These two albums between them contain most of their Classic numbers, including 'Song of Reproduction', 'Have some Madeira, m'dear', and 'Mud, Glorious Mud'. I a;so have an Ian Wallace LP which includes his take on the 'Hippopotamus Song'. Coming to Chipping Norton Theater in late July is a Flanders & Swann tribute act, starring Tim FitzHigham & Jordan Clarke. I know nothing about either of these two gentlemen, but I'll most likely go to see them.

That's a very good update on 'The Gas man Cometh' As others have commented it portrays the fact that, though technology has changed, sometimes (if not always!) other things haven't. Early this year I had a problem with my landline. It took several e-mails & phone calls to Talk Talk before the fault, which turned out to be in an underground junction box nearby, was repaired.
