Keyboard...?

Just been trying to type a reply in another thread but the typing self erases what's in front of it, in other words the text already written is gobbling itself up if that makes any sense......why? the above is an example, tried to edit but what ever I typed in erases what was already there, if I kept typing an edit the original message would have disappeared.

The other thing is every day at some random time my keyboard changes from ENG to US...unprompted by me, I keep resetting it to ENG but it still goes back to US at some random time afterwards.....why?

......Sometimes I'll be typing away without looking at the screen at the same time...as you do...then I look at the screen and only a few letters of what I've typed show up and the cursor is stuck, hitting more letters doesn't make any difference, then a short while later all the letters suddenly appear including the ones I was banging on in frustration to get something on the screen.....why?

Do you have a spare keyboard to eliminate that as a problem?

For the editing problem, are you in "overtype" mode rather than "insert"?

No spare keyboard Jeffrey, how do I find the editing option? (I'm a computer numpt)

By the way it was getting so bad a short while ago (the typed text decided to go down to size 1 without prompting) that I shut the machine down for a re-boot, as I now type, everything's ok again.

In Word and other WP programs, the "Insert" key switches between overtype and insert. Not sure if there's an overtype option when using a web browser.

I didn't even suggest that you turned it off and on again I'd assumed the problem was persistent.

The re-boot was entirely my decision because I was getting right peed of with it, it's still behaving ok now though, the problem is it's intermittent, it does it on this forum reply as well as UKVRRR forum reply.

Percussive maintenance

Many people have spare keyboards. I have several but I'm in London, not Cornwall. Can you scrounge one locally for a few days?

TBH, the problem feels more software than hardware but you don't know until you've tried the easy things first. In this case a keyboard swap.

Feels more like software to me too, I think a new PC is needed at some point .

One of the problems is the intermittancy period, sometimes it can be many weeks before the problem occurs again except for ENG US keyboard thing that changes on its own on a daily basis.....which really annoys me.

Overtype (OVR?) occurs with email, so probably with browsers too. It is easy to inadvertently select it by a glancing touch to the wrong key so it may not be a fault as such. You might be contacting your 'insert' key. Try it when the fault occurs - one tap on the insert key to clear the overtype setting, another single tap on the insert key to set it up.

Never knew about the insert key on the keyboard, just tried it, it simulates the fault to a tee....hopefully that's it.

Still puzzled by the mystery auto changing from ENG keyboard to US keyboard, does it every day, really annoying, eg:  hit " and @ comes up, amongst other things.


I wonder if ENG to US can be done on the keyboard and I'm inadvertently hitting some button or other that causes it to change over?

You should be able to go into windows control panel and delete the US keyboard completely. How you do this depends on which version of windows you have.
