Hello Folks,

I've had this old beast for ages, but haven't seen it for about 35-40 years !!!
When I last worked on it all I did was replace the smoothers and it worked.
Well, now it's back and it still seems to work (ok I re-replaced the smoothers with 8+8 uf 450v and all is good.
The valve line up seems to be UU4, AC/PEN, AG/SG and what is probably an AC/S1VM (metallised with invisible green printed writing!) - All Mazda's.
My question is, does anyone have a circuit for this model as all the ones I can find (including the ones on the CD's seem to use metal rectifiers.
I know it's hardly difficult to repair, but I would like to see a proper diagram for it.
As far as I know it is a 1933 jobbie, which looks about right.

I'm not a member so can't get the circuit diagram but it does have a valve rectifier.

The RM page references Trader 528 but that shows a metal rectifier.

The set is also featured on Trader 3 but that also has a metal rect.

I right clicked on the thumbnail and selected copy image, then pasted it into MS Paint and blew it up.

No way of reading values of course but it should be possible to redraw the actual circuit accurately.

There is one oddity - the cathode of V2 is connected to the usual resistor/capacitor parallel network but there is something between the earthy end and the chassis. It looks like a switch, which is ridiculous.

A visual inspection will be needed to establish exactly what is there.

It is interesting that, if you scroll down in the window of the RM entry that it also includes Trader 528 but the all valve one is headed just TRADER SERVICE SHEET without a number - or so I thought, but looking again it appears to say SHEETS, which doesn't make sense - but SHEET5 would ...

The switch is probably a bias switch.

Just downloaded the schematic in that radiomuseum link, the switch in the cathode circuit is across the gram input sockets.

I did wonder about that. I suppose it would work fine with a fairly low impedance magnetic pick-up.

I thought that Radio Museum did allow non-members to download their schematics these days but obviously didn't trigger the right response first time!

Alan, go to the web page and click on the schematic which will then appear in the main window. Click in the main window and follow the instructions, then Robert is your mother's brother.

Hello All,

Yes the link Is to the correct version of the Tiger as far as I know. I find it interesting that all the other circuits for the Tiger seem to have metal rectifiers and also 4 valves.

Looks like anode bend detection but usually the bias is reduced for gramophone input.....

Interestingly, I downloaded the third page from the same link (for the underside picture of the chassis as mine seems a bit of a variation) and it shows the 4 valve version + metal rectifier - weird !!
It seems the whole Ultra Tiger range is a bit confusing.....
Oh well at least mine seems to be working fairly well at the minute.
