It's a very long time since I last looked at the wiring to the cone of a speaker (probably before you were born, Mark!) but it always looked to me like the braid from miniature single screened pick-up wire (as used for mono cartridges) with the centre, insulated conductor removed!
Very flexible and easy to solder - why would you need anything else?
